The bestseller is written by Kate Raworth, an economist ‘focused on making economics fit for 21st century realities.’

"Doughnut Economics: Seven Ways to Think Like a 21st Century Economist" written by Kate Raworth.

In her book Raworth advocates an economic model that strikes a balance between meeting essential human needs and respecting the limits of our planet. The goal of the donut is to meet the needs of all people within the means of the planet.

Sufficient food, education, health for everyone: that is the inner edge of the donut. At the same time, we have to take into account the finite nature of raw materials, the preservation of biodiversity, and climate change. That is the outer edge of the donut. The challenge for this century is to stay within the sweet spot of the donut, which Raworth calls the safe and just space.

A broader view that looks beyond profit maximization is needed to design a sustainable economy that will be beneficial for both people and nature.
